Suitability
This software is suitable for primary and secondary school students who are experiencing reading difficulties, including those who are dyslexic or have ADD. It is also suitable for adult learners and 'English as a Second Language' students.
Overview

Reading Freedom is a comprehensive, fully integrated phonics program that is carefully structured to teach students the skills they need to become effective readers. It is especially useful for students with reading difficulties, and is intended for use in the middle primary years, secondary schools, with adult learners and for students learning English as a second language.

The strength of Reading Freedom is in its modern phonics-based approach and its fundamental principles of structured instruction, and positive reinforcement through the demonstrated mastery of basic reading skills.

In Reading Freedom 1 students start by learning the sounds the letters make and go on to blend these sounds together to make words. Students also learn to spell these words, and to read sentences made from the words. They then go onto adding word endings and then to reading comprehension passages based around the sounds and words learned in each unit of work.

The interactive exercises, voiceover support, motivational activities and reinforcement through positive feedback combine to help students gradually develop their skills so they can read these words with accuracy and fluency. The program is fully interactive, and students are able to listen to individual words and sounds that are new to them while enjoying the colourful graphics.

Parents and teachers are able to view and print student results, as well as a list of problem words recorded by the program for each student. Pass rates can also be changed to meet teaching needs.

Printable certificates are awarded for successful completion of each of the 17 units of work covering 52 individual lessons.

When students have completed Reading Freedom 1 they will have mastered the skill of reading words containing single letter sound correspondences, and will be ready to learn the sounds and rules taught in Reading Freedom 2.

Product Feedback
- P Bell (Parent/educator)
"This is an exciting CD ROM, as it does not assume that all children pick up reading skills quickly (although the child with average ability may with this program). Nor does it presume that what they learn will then stay with them. Instead, it is a carefully structured, cleverly paced program to help children master early reading skills.

This program is perfect for children or adults with learning problems or special needs. Reading Freedom 1 is an effective tool for students first encountering letter sound relationships.

This is a thoroughly thought out CD ROM, designed by someone who knows their stuff."
